Mogadishu, July, 20, 2009, 2:35 AM-ET (SOMINA) - Hard-line Islamist group Al-Shebab banned Monday activities of three UN agencies currently operating in the country.
In a statement issued by the department of the groups’ political affairs said the agencies were found being the “the enemy of Islam”.
"As of July 20 a number of NGOs and foreign agencies currently operating in Somalia will be completely closed down and considered enemies of Islam and Muslims," it said in a statement.
The group singled out the U.N. Development Programme, U.N. Department of Safety and Security and the U.N. Political Office for Somalia.
"The above foreign agencies have been found to be working against the benefit of the Somali Muslim population and against the establishment of an Islamic state in Somalia," it said.
