Somali prime minister tells rebels release French hostages

Mogadishu, July 16, 2009, 4:26 PM-ET, (SOMINA-Somalia Prime Minister has called on the captors of two French agents to release them with no conditions.

 

The prime minister held a press conference at his office in the capital Thursday.

 

“The rebel group of Hizb Al-Islam claimed to be responsible for the kidnapping and we are telling them that taking humans as hostage will never lead to reaching political goals, and we call on them to release the pair safely”, Mr. Sharmarke told reporters.

 

We are getting information that the tow hostages have been shared by the Shebab and Hizb Al-Islam which is really dreadful information, so that we clearly say that Hizb Al-Islam will bear responsible for any harmful actions taken against the hostages”, he added.

 

 The prime minister also said his government is making all efforts to help release of the hostages.

 

The two French agents who were helping train the UN backed shaky government had been kidnapped by Somali militia who broke in the hotel they stayed.
